Police & Crime Commissioner Election May 6th
Thursday, April 15th, 2021
Why we should care
Police and crime commissioners are elected to hold our police force to account for delivering the kind of policing we want to see. Their aim is to cut crime and to ensure effectiveness of the Police Force. They do this by:
- Engaging with the public and victims of crime to help set police and crime plans and force-wide priorities;
- Holding the Chief Constable to account for policing, scrutinising, supporting and challenging performance;
- Setting the force budget and ensuring it is spent where it matters most;
- Appointing, and where necessary, dismissing the chief constable.
